This deck was a local purchase a few months ago, and the client sold us the machine, as it had a number of issues with it, including worn heads, so he opted to trade it in towards a Teac 3440 instead of getting this one repaired. Since other 1/2" 8 track Tascams were still in the design phase, Teac quickly came out with a motor upgrade, to a 24V DC motor and a pitch control box, that then added pitch control to the 80-8. Within a couple of years, Teac had competition, and Fostex and Otari came out with decks with pitch control, slowing the sales of the 80-8, that had an AC synchronous motor, with no pitch control. Many records and demos were made on this machine. Musicians jumped on this deck, and thousands were sold around the world. This is the Teac/Tascam 80-8, the first 'portable' (90ish lbs!) 1/2" 8 track deck that Teac made in the early 1970s. We have about 150 decks in stock at all times. We stock many types of ATR tape from 7" reels to 2", in several formulations. We work on everything from mono tube machines to 2" 24 track studio decks. We use MRL calibration tapes, and are dealers for ATR tape. We have over 35 years experience working on these units, and have the tools and test equipment to properly align and bring these decks to life. We are one of the only facilities in the Pacific NorthWest that buys, sells and restores reel to reel tape decks.
